Medical & scientific direction
Professor Karim Nayernia, PhD
Professor Karim Nayernia is Alba Longevity’s Medical Director and a biomedical scientist specialising in stem-cell biology, personalised and regenerative medicine. His career spans research and academic appointments in Germany, Switzerland and the UK, bringing extensive scientific experience to Alba’s longevity programmes.
In depth
Medical philosophy
That molecular information is only meaningful when it is read against the whole person: history, physiology, environment and intention.
Current research
Clinical research collaborations in personalised and cellular medicine, alongside continuing work in molecular medicine.
Selected publications
Peer-reviewed work in stem-cell biology, regenerative medicine and molecular medicine. Summaries will be added to the Alba research library with their limitations stated.
Video conversation
A short filmed conversation for Alba: why should two people of the same age not receive the same longevity programme?
The treating medical team confirms your suitability and treatment plan following assessment. Treatment availability varies by country. Please read our Medical Information page for further details.

Professor Karim Nayernia is Alba Longevity’s Medical Director, bringing a background in molecular genetics, stem-cell biology and personalised medicine. His career has included academic appointments in Germany and the UK, laboratory research into stem cells and the development of programmes that use individual biological findings to inform health recommendations.
Professor Nayernia completed his doctorate at the University of Göttingen in Germany in 1993. He continued his research at the university and earned his habilitation in Molecular Human Genetics in 2003, with work examining the molecular genetics of germ-cell tumours.
In 2006, he joined Newcastle University as Professor of Stem Cell Biology at the Institute of Human Genetics. This appointment followed his research in Germany into the properties of stem cells and their ability to develop into specialised cell types.
His research has examined germline stem cells, pluripotent stem cells, cancer stem cells and tissue regeneration. These studies investigate how cells develop, how their behaviour changes in disease and how scientists might use that knowledge in regenerative medicine.
In a 2006 study published in Developmental Cell, Professor Nayernia and his colleagues demonstrated that male reproductive cells derived from embryonic stem cells could produce offspring in mice. The work contributed to laboratory research into reproductive development and stem-cell differentiation.
His publication record includes research in Nature, Developmental Cell and Cancer Research. He has also supervised postgraduate researchers and presented his work at scientific meetings internationally.
Professor Nayernia founded the International Center for Personalized Medicine in Düsseldorf. He also established the International Stem Cell Academy, which focuses on education in stem-cell science. These activities extend his work beyond the laboratory into personalised medicine and scientific training.
Personalised medicine considers differences between individuals when assessing health and planning care. Molecular and cellular findings can contribute to that assessment alongside medical history, clinical investigations and lifestyle. Professor Nayernia’s work brings these areas together to inform an individual approach.
As Medical Director, Professor Nayernia provides the scientific and medical leadership behind Alba’s approach to personalised longevity.
Alba connects clients with specialist teams for assessment, stem-cell treatment and ongoing monitoring. His background in genetics and cellular research supports the scientific foundation of that work, while the responsible treating clinicians assess suitability and explain the proposed treatment, its evidence, risks and alternatives.
For clients, this means access to programmes informed by individual findings, with a clear distinction between the science behind an intervention and the clinical decisions required for their own care.
